How are vitals captured by Bodd?

The vitals use rPPG (remote photoplethysmography). During a 30-second facial video, the camera picks up tiny colour changes in the skin caused by blood flow with every heartbeat, invisible to the eye but detectable frame-by-frame. From that pattern the system derives heart rate, heart rate variability (HRV), respiratory rate, and an estimated blood pressure.

For a good vitals reading, the customer needs to:

  • stay still and look straight ahead
  • avoid talking during the 30 seconds
  • remove any facial covering, glasses glare, or heavy make-up where possible, including sun screen
  • be in even, adequate lighting
